Quarter plate daguerreotype. Precious child post mortem taken by George S. Cook, likely 1849–1850, when he was operating in South Carolina. Fine color, subtle tinting, especially the skin tones. Lighting makes the child's face glow. No wipe marks; the image has been resealed. The case, signed "COOK ARTIST CHARLESTON," has a split hinge.
